One event that comes up for me every February is the Campus Food Bank’s annual Mac ‘n Cheese Affair fundraiser. JP has been involved with the Campus Food Bank for years and for as long as I have known him, I have attended the event (I even did a recap from a few years ago). The Campus Food Bank does tremendous work for students, staff and alumni at the University of Alberta in the fight against hunger. I love their motto/mission of “Hunger for knowledge, not food” because that really is what student life and university should be about – the pursuit of knowledge.
In today’s economic climate, food banks across the country are reporting higher instances of use and I do not doubt that the Campus Food Bank is also seeing increased usage. The Campus Food Bank is one of the charities I actively support and I know that the Mac ‘n Cheese Affair is one of their major fundraising events, so I do go and it’s never only for the food (although who says no to mac and cheese?), but rather to support them in any way I can.

Last year’s mac and cheese – it was much more filling than I thought!
This year’s Mac ‘n Cheese Affair will be held at the Faculty Club at the University of Alberta on February 26, 2016 and generally it’s a three course meal along with a guest speaker and silent auction. Tickets are $50 and while you don’t get a donation receipt with ticket (unless you’re donating funds on top of the ticket price), you are contributing to a great organization dedicated to eradicating hunger on campus. And if you’re not able to attend the Mac ‘n Cheese Affair, there are many other ways to contribute to the work the Campus Food Bank does!
