Wow… summer has totally flown by. I don’t get to take a lot of time off work in the summer so I always think it will feel incredibly long, but I am proven wrong every single time. While I did get to take off and enjoy sunny California (maybe too sunny since I came home with a sunburn despite copious amounts of sunscreen), all the awesome festivals and events in Edmonton have just filled up what spare time I have, which means I haven’t been able to share my July and August Topboxes with y’all…
July’s Topbox Included:
- No Dark Shadows Complexion Enhancer in WOW (Full Size – 2g)
- Red Flower Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum (3ml)
- The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer (0.57g)
- Trind North America Nail Repair Natural (Full Size – 9ml)
July’s Topbox was quite nice but not what I would call awe-inspiring. It was mainly filled with brands that are unfamiliar to me, so that was definitely a win. I haven’t had a chance to test any of the products, so I don’t have much of a review to offer but I am interested in breaking open the No Dark Shadows Complexion Enhancer once I use up my current cover-up stick. I love rose products so the Red Flower Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum is high on my list of items to try but it is also one that I want to toss into my travel bag since I used up most of the goodies in my travel kit. I have a lot of illuminating products, so The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer is probably not going to make it into the rotation any time soon, especially since I am really not a heavy user of this type of product (I have a lot of full size illuminators in my makeup arsenal). I was going to try and test the Trind Nail Repair Natural, but it was fairly involved with every day use being mandatory for a 2 week period and I didn’t have the time or energy to devote to it. Plus my nails are in fairly good condition so I am not in a rush to strengthen them beyond their current state. So while all the products seem interesting, the box is still a little hit and miss for me in terms of usage in the near future.
August’s Topbox Included:
- Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow Quad in Madrid (Full Size – 4.8g)
- Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow in Medium/Deep (Full Size – 3g)
- Ceramic Glaze Nail Lacquer in Mermaids Tail (Full Size – 14ml)
- Model Co Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Striptease (Full Size – 4ml)
- Tresemme Perfectly (Un)Done Waves Sea Foam (45ml)
While July’s Topbox was an ok box, August’s Topbox was totally on point for me. This is probably the first time I have received a Topbox filled with all full size products! I couldn’t believe that everything in here was full sized, which is a fantastic value. The Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow Quad is mainly neutral colours that I can incorporate into my day to day wear, but as someone who owns more eyeshadow than probably necessary, a brand new quad will most likely sit in my make up case until I use up everything else. I love the idea of the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow but I have pretty strong/dark eyebrows as it is, so I don’t know if I will use it very often. The one product I did manage to test last week was the Ceramic Glaze Nail Polish (only available at Shoppers Drug Mart) and I am on the fence about this polish. It’s a neon/matte finish but it wasn’t really matte and not shiny enough to really pop like a neon, so it was in this weird middle space that left me a little confused – I would have just preferred it as a shiny neon. The polish is quite thin so you need to build up the layers, but also need to be careful to make each layer very even otherwise you get some very apparent thick spots, so definitely not the most forgiving polish out there. In spite of all this, I did like the colour, but I don’t think it is enough for me to consider picking up another polish from this brand when there are other polishes in the same price range that I like better. I heard some rave reviews for the Model Co Lip Gloss, so I am looking forward to using this in the future, but we all know how I feel about lip products so it will be awhile before I get to it, although I might give a quick test run soon. Lastly, the Tresemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Waves Sea Foam was a bonus product that everyone seems to have received – Someone I know tested hers out and really liked it, so I can’t wait to see if this will turn my “meh” waves into beautiful beachy textured waves!
So What Would Argenplath Pay?
Considering that I pay $12.60 for my Topbox, the value from these two boxes are phenomenal at $50.16 and $72.34. This is one of the reasons I really love Topbox since you can end up with boxes filled with full size products or products that cost much more than what you paid. The ability to try (when I get around to it) products that would cost more than my subscription fee is why I like subscription boxes because I can get the most bang for my buck, especially if I end up with a product that is a bit of a dud.
