Living La Vida Local: Revojuiceinary

We have all heard of Living La Vida Loca right? I don’t know about you, but I think I have finally reached the age (haha I am not sharing what that is publicly) where the “living the crazy life” is too much for my poor weary bones. Instead, I am definitely trying to live, eat, shop (and more) locally, so I thought I would take the time to talk about some really great local businesses that I’ve come across in Edmonton. I am not going to lie, there was a time I couldn’t wait to get out of here and move to the “big leagues” like Vancouver and Toronto, but really truly, my hometown has grown on me a lot and I am reluctant to think about moving away. While moving may happen for a host of reasons, because Edmonton is a boring, uninspired etc city is definitely not going to one of them.

So the first business in the series I want to talk about is Revojuiceinary. I really like that Revojuiceinary states in their “about us” that they are about social entrepreneurship and want to be a counter-proposal to a for-profit business and that they clearly lay out what that means for them. Obviously, they have to be a sustainable/profitable business but I think their goals are very laudable.

I originally heard about Revojuiceinary at a Hawkers Market event (I don’t know if/when another Edmonton one will pop up) – I was thirsty and they had juice – it was a definitely a demand meet supply moment. I tried their mojito juice and I really enjoyed it… in fact I didn’t miss the rum! Another thing I love about their products is that they use glass mason jars as the container for the juice. Huge points for sustainability there! While I don’t can or pickle foods, several of my friends do, and I am happy to pass these along to them. Also the jars are great lunch containers, so I do keep one or two on hand.

Revojuiceinary offers juice cleanse packages in addition to the juices and nut milks (cashew and walnut) and they have a sliding scale pricing for the cleanses (starting at $60) depending on your financial situation (which they don’t ask you about – it’s all on the honour system). They will deliver the cleanse packages, but if you’re after individual juices, they are available at several different stores in the Edmonton area.

Recently I completed a survey for Revojuiceinary and won a one day cleanse package. To be completely honest, I am not really into the idea of juice cleanses and mentioned that to them and instead of receiving a cleanse package, I actually received several different juices, which I really appreciated!

Revojuices: Electrolyte Elixir, Minty Sunrise, Magic Green Drink

The six juices I received were: Electrolyte Elixir, Minty Sunrise, Magic Green Drink (x2), Radical Rabbit and Third Wave. You are supposed to drink these within 4 days of the package date and I just barely made it under the wire on March 6th. I pretty much ended having a glass of juice in the morning and then taking a jar in to work with me and it was definitely a change to have juice instead of my usual coffee!

While the tags and packaging are great – they make it a little harder to see the colours of the juices, so as you can see in this set of photos, the juices are quite vibrant and truly just scream healthy don’t you think? All the juices are 100% raw cold pressed from organic produce and I certainly felt better about drinking it. I liked all the juices, although I will admit the Radical Rabbit is probably my least favorite but carrot juice and I have never been friends. The Minty Sunrise was my favorite (after mojito – which I hear is back in stock?) – it was a nice way to start the morning and had a stronger fruit juice flavour over vegetable juice flavour, although the Magic Green Drink was fantastic in that mid-morning zone!

The individual juices retail for about $11 each and it would throw my budget off quite a bit if I bought one every day, but for those days that I need a healthier pick me up – the Revojuiceinary products will be one of my first choices!

And with that, I think a new blog series has been launched… So darlings – let’s keep supporting local businesses and “living la vida local” as much as possible together!
